But donning a dimestore tiara while a lubed up dancer named Duke invades the bride’s personal space isn’t required if that’s not her thing. So just what does a bachelorette bash entail? Read on to find out…

What is a Bachelorette Party

A bachelorette party is really whatever your group makes of it. Since this is an informal event, the etiquette surrounding it is pretty flexible. The only requirements are that the bride enjoys some QT with her best pals.

When Is It

The party can take place any time during the bride’s engagement but often occurs within the final weeks or months (keeping with the tradition of it being a final sendoff). Steer clear of the last weekend before the wedding, however, as things tend to get pretty hectic for the bride towards the end. With bridesmaids often spread all over the country, the main determinant in scheduling the event is the time when everyone can get together. The maid-of-honor usually gets the ball rolling – coordinating availability with all the ‘maids and other attendees then setting a date that works with everyone’s schedules.

Who Hosts

The maid-of-honor and bridesmaids usually do the honors, but really anyone who feels the urge can plan a party for the bride-to-be (some brides even have multiple bashes). One person can plan the entire event, or a group can collaborate together (all the bridesmaids, or the happy hour crew). Usually, the host or hosts will tally costs and ask for a donation from all those attending – other than the bride of course. The host(s) should keep all budgets in mind before planning a big blowout gala and make sure all attendees are on board before sending the bill. No one should have to go into debt over this. And to show your appreciation, include some fun bachelorette party favors as an incentive.

Who’s Invited

Bachelorette party guests are generally the bridesmaids and any other of the bride’s best pals. Unlike shower guests – who must receive a wedding invite – there’s no hard rule that says bachelorette party attendees must also be wedding guests. Inviting coworkers, neighbors, or other casual acquaintances for a fun evening out is perfectly acceptable, as long as you’re up front about the bride’s limited wedding guest list first. For logistical and planning purposes, try to keep the party small – no more than 20 and ideally less than ten.

Where Is It

The party can literally be anywhere. Choice of location usually follows from the style of party you want to throw. Bars, clubs, restaurants (or a combination of all three - pub crawl anyone?) make the obvious locations for a wild send off. Other options include resorts, spas, beaches, or outdoor activity locations like parks, trails, rivers, or lakes.

What Happens

Bachelorette parties can involve pretty much any activity the bride would enjoy. The most obvious choice is dragging the bride from bar to bar while calling attention to her in any fun, yet lighthearted, way (think homemade veils and t-shits, phallic paraphernalia, treasure hunts….). But again, that’s not the only way to celebrate. Dinner parties, spa retreats, outdoor excursions, an evening at the show or play – they all make great options depending on the bride’s preference. Unlike the bridal shower, the bachelorette party is not a gift giving event, but you can present the bride with gag gifts or gifts deemed too racy for the shower, like lingerie. All that really needs to happen is fun, laughter, and some serious female bonding. And of course – you may want to embarrass her just a bit along the way.

Bachelorette Party Ideas

OK – so your bachelorette is not the table dancing, inflatable phallus type of girl. Relax – there are plenty of other ways to send your gal off in style. Here are some g-rated bachelorette party alternatives:

Adventure Bachelorette – go hiking, rafting, horseback riding, camping – really any outdoor activity she enjoys.

Spa Party – gather the girls for some serious pamperingFondue Party – or any style of intimate dinner party (fondue just seems to make things more fun!)

Beach Weekend – enjoy some sun, sand, and plenty of tropical beverages.

Casino Night – all bets are on! Set up game tables, break out the decks, and test your luck with a roll of the dice. A casino night is also a good bet for a co-ed bash.

Wine Tasting – hit up Napa Valley (or the nearest winery) for a day – or weekend – filled with good wine, good conversation, and good friends.

Retail Therapy - gather the crew for a day of boutique shopping. Make it more festive and rent a limo to chauffeur you as you pop in and out of the bride’s favorite stores, and be sure to stock it with champagne.

Psychic Reading - Weddings are all about the future, so help the bride prepare for hers by hiring a fortune teller, astrologer or palm reader.

Shafonne Myers - Making Your Event Special
http://www.makingyoureventspecial.com/

Far more than pulling on fancy clothes, strolling down the aisle and saying, "I do," a successful wedding is a testament to a couple's ability to plan and juggle multiple tasks.

One of the biggest tasks a couple must handle is choosing a reception hall. Since most couples choose a religious facility based on where they attend services or where they attended growing up, that decision is often easier than choosing where the couple and their guests will go to let loose once the ceremony's over. Couples facing the dilemma of where to host their post-wedding party should ask the following questions when on the hunt for a reception hall.

· When is the hall available? If you've already chosen a wedding date, this is obviously the most important question to ask. If you haven't pinned down a date yet, perhaps a favorite hall's availability can help you determine when to walk down the aisle. Just remember that many houses of worship frown on picking a date and booking with a reception hall without securing the ceremony first.

· How much? Different places charge different prices, and with the escalating costs of weddings these days, this should be the question you ask immediately after learning of the hall's availability. It's also good to have a number in mind with respect to how much you can spend on the reception.
It's also wise to ask what's included in the fee. Some halls, believe it or not, charge extra for tables, chairs and linens. Be sure to state your preference of round tables or banquet tables as well.

· What is the capacity? This can often be researched via the Internet. If your wedding party is going to be large, there's no sense in driving to a locale that can't accommodate larger crowds. Some reception halls feature rooms for smaller crowds and rooms for larger parties.

· What about the catering? Some reception halls insist customers use their kitchen staff, while others allow outside caterers to come in. Oftentimes, halls that require on-site staff do the cooking also require a minimum number of guests. In addition, those that permit private caterers might charge extra to allow kitchen usage to outside vendors.

· What service styles are available? Food and drinks can be served cocktail style, formal, or buffet style. Couples should determine what they want, but should also keep in mind that buffet style serving is often less expensive.

· How can drinks be served? The bar service can range from a full open bar (often the most expensive) to only certain drinks offered at the open bar (i.e., beer is open bar, mixed drinks cost guests per drink) to individuals paying for their own drinks all night, called a cash bar.

· How late is the reception hall open? Most reception halls will stay open until around midnight before informing guests it's closing time. Some halls, however, might close earlier. Make sure the party hours are spelled out in your contract.

· What is the refund policy? This can be an important question to ask in the unfortunate case an emergency arises and the wedding is moved or the couple calls off the wedding.

Courtesy of Metro Creative Connection

Often there is great speculation surrounding who will be bestowed the honor of being a bridesmaid or groomsman and who will win the coveted spots of best man and maid of honor. The pressure could ultimately become a cause of undue stress for the happy couple.

Before making the decisions based solely on who is a best friend or favorite cousin, consider the responsibilities the maid of honor and best man must uphold according to tradition. This may make pairing the right person with the job that much easier.

BEST MAN

This is the groom's right-hand man. He has a series of responsibilities, none which should be taken lightly.

· Oversees the groomsmen, making sure they are on time for the ceremony, properly dressed and have their boutonnieres on the left lapel.

· Ensures that the groom is dressed and ready for the ceremony. Of course you can apply these tips to your wedding plan in My Wedding Hero: wedding planning software.

Make-up

Always, always enlist the services of a great make-up artist. It can be someone professional or a friend that just knows how to apply make-up. Pictures always look better when the palette looks nice. This is a no brainer. If your make-up looks nice then the pictures are definitely going to reflect this and the pictures will look much better.

Light

Consider the amount of light at the ceremony and reception site. The more light the better and natural light is always good. It is easier for the photographer to work and produce good pictures when there is adequate light. TimeBeautiful pictures take time. Make sure and give enough time for each picture to be taken when doing your pictures after the wedding. You don’t want to rush perfection.

Ceremony

When walking down the aisle make sure and go slow. You don’t want to move to fast and then your photographer is not able to catch every glorious moment of your grand entrance.

Reception

You have finally gotten through the ceremony and the announcement at the reception and it is time to take the dance floor, for the first time, as Mr. and Mrs, make sure that you try and refine from singing. I now it is going to be hard, but trust me it will make your pictures look so much better.

Meet your photographer

I encourage everyone to try and work with your photographer before the big day. Whether it is for engagement photos or to do your bridal portrait, make sure that you have a chance to get to see how the photographer works. You also want to see how they will work with you and your fiancé, as well as their style and personality. This will definitely help with ensuring that on your wedding day they know your style and personality and you know theirs.

Happy Planning,

Shafonne Myers - Making Your Event Special

http://www.makingyoureventspecial.com/

Rather than focus on unique flower arrangements or the caterer du jour, couples are doing something much more intimate. Having wedding rings created for them, making them just as special as their own vows.

Sarah Perlis, a Manhattan-based jewelry designer, has not only seen this trend grow, she has helped make it possible for couples to design their rings and make them something truly special. “Making custom rings – engagement and wedding – is one of my favorite things to do. It’s personal and creative. Since each one is unique, it gives me the chance to play and experiment with designs that I don’t always have the opportunity to work with in my collection.” Sarah’s time with the couple or husband-to-be, along with her unique designs, give emotional substance and meaning behind the jewelry that will last a lifetime.

In addition to Sarah’s one-on-one consultations, her bright spacious studio loft on Manhattan’s Lower East Side offers a tranquil experience for customers. Her artistic oasis evokes a feeling of calm creativity that any couple in the midst of planning their wedding can appreciate. In a market that is saturated with overbearing sales people and companies that advertise to the impulse purchaser, Sarah’s studio offers a relaxing atmosphere, and a place where the couple can discover what truly defines who they are. Sarah’s use of organic materials including 22-karat recycled gold and organic gemstones, really help reflect a customer’s personality in each design. After all, marriage is a life-long commitment that deserves a well thought out process which allows every detail of the ring to be just right.

“It’s inspiring to have someone come here, not completely sure of what they are looking for, and for us to guide each other. I think this is a really special way to go about getting a ring.” Before coming to Sarah a person may not have had a strong point-of-view, but as they go through the options and Sarah talks to their senses they start to realize that they can design something that merits true meaning and sentiment.

For over ten years, Sarah Perlis has been designing jewelry from her downtown New York City studio. Her mission is to share her passion for life and extend a sense of joy through her work. Sarah established her craft in jewelry design at The Jewelry Arts Institute in New York. Sarah's jewelry has been featured in numerous magazines, and can be seen on celebrities such as Mandy Moore, Keira Knightley, Sheryl Crow, Keri Russell, and Demi Moore. Sarah looks to not only design beautiful jewelry, but create jewelry in an environmentally and sociably responsible way. All of Sarah’s pieces incorporate recycled gold, organic gemstones and conflict free diamonds. Consistently staying up-to-date on fashion trends, but remaining faithful to timeless beauty, Sarah Perlis offers a line of jewelry that appeals to the masses but remains one-of-a-kind.

www.sarahperlis.com

For Immediate Release
Contact:
Ellen Gray
TheCannonGroup
egray@thecannongroup.us
p. 212.206.0303
f. 212.206.9946

Even those brides-to-be who knew all the reasons why they were getting married a few months ago may be facing the prospect of walking down the aisle with anxiety.

Call it cold feet or wedding jitters, the feeling is common among newlyweds-to-be. Stress has a funny way of making mountains out of molehills - little idiosyncracies in a partner can quickly grow into horrible character traits. The key is recognizing when fears are just the result of too much planning and not deep-rooted relationship issues. Usually a person quickly realizes they're more overwhelmed about the wedding details than the thought of making a commitment.

"The What If Guy," by Taylor G. Wilshire has messages of love, forgiveness and affirmation at its roots, which can offer help at this important time in your life. It also provides an entertaining story that gives you a chance to kick back and escape.

1. Put your thoughts onto paper - Make a list of what is causing the most anxiety. This release technique is something main character Ryley McKenna used in the book to clear her fears and prevent overworrying. Sometimes having all of your racing thoughts organized and on paper can help you rationally address the issues and see that there is no serious cause of the jitters. It can also help you pinpoint a common stress trigger, such as a financial concern or a conflict with a family member. Compare these fears to a list of reasons why you love your partner and want to enter a commitment with this person. This simple task can bring order to jumbled feelings and offer clarity on any nervousness you may have.

2. Learn to relax - Make time for yourself and enjoy activities that are not directly related to wedding planning. For example, some women benefit from a massage or facial treatment. Others find that a relaxing drive or walk along the beach or through another quiet area can help promote calmness. Or take a cue from Ryley and learn to relax by meditating to put your mind at peace: Find a quiet place and focus on deep breathing.

3. Talk to your partner - Open up to your partner about how you are feeling. You just may find that he is experiencing some of the same things as you and that jitters are completely normal. Working through fears to a place of love is one of the underlying concepts of "A Course in Miracles," the inspirational text that helps guide Ryley throughout the book. By expressing your fears and doubts, and working through them as a team, this can be the first step you take as a married couple to support each other in good times ... and bad.

4. Recognize that changes understandably make people uncomfortable - One of the most life-altering changes a person can make is getting married, particularly if you've both been used to living on your own and making your own decisions. Instead of focusing on what you could be losing by getting married, reaffirm all of the things you will be gaining. It may help to talk to married couples who have been successful in keeping their relationships strong. Remember though, your relationship is unique to you as a couple. So don't be sidetracked over what could or may happen.

5. Keep in mind that love is most important - While you want the weather to cooperate and the day to be flawless, you cannot control the outcome of everything when getting married. There may be some minor (or major) bumps along the way. Being able to recover gracefully and enjoy yourself can help start your relationship off on the right foot. Remember, you'll have many other chances to create winning memories as you grow old together with your partner, so don't put so much emphasis on the wedding details or the most important moments may pass you by. For further inspiration, see the ways Ryley overcomes challenges to find her path to true love in "The What if Guy."

Add "The What If Guy" to your bridal shower wish list to provide some much-needed salvation during this wonderful, but often stressful time. It is available wherever paperbacks are sold. During this process you choose wedding jewelry that matches your gorgeous gown and coordinates your entire look together. A bracelet is the perfect way to add an extra splash of color to the wrist.

The best part about selecting your bridal bracelet is that you can choose any style. With necklaces you need to consider the style of your gown and the neckline, so you necklace will match perfectly. With a bracelet, there is no matching up except for color and size. You can place a bracelet on a bare wrist or over wedding gloves, either way, it adds a romantic and final look to your outfit.

When choosing your bracelet you need to consider the embellishments your gown has. Are there crystals, rhinestones, pearls or sequins on your gown? Is your gown white, ivory, champagne? Does it have a colorful sash or embroidery detail? These are all items to consider when selecting your bridal bracelet. Choose like materials for all of your jewelry. If your gown has pearls and crystals, then choose a bridal bracelet that has pearls and crystals.

There are a variety of styles and beads available today. You can choose anywhere from a simple single strand bracelet to a cuff style bracelet. There are great chunky styles and very glamorous looks this season. We now need to decite on the site. There are numerous options available out there for every budget.

Do you want to be outside or inside? By the ocean, or the mountains, in a hotel or a private club. There is so much to choose from. The main thing to consider is what you and your fiance want. What type of feel are you'll going for. Do you want a nice beach theme with the ocean waves crashing in the background? Or the mountains rolling behind you with a picturesque view or a nice hotel or private club with a grand hall.

The main thing that I tell my couples are to make sure that whatever you choose is what "YOU" want. It doesn't matter about money or how much something cost because any of the above themes can be achieved on any budget. You can have a wedding at a nice hotel, private club, on the beach or mountains and fit into anyones budget. It is all about how you go about doing it and what is important to you. If you really want a nice reception site then you might not be able to pay as much for the food or music. It is all about what is important to "YOU".

The reception site is the most important aspect of your wedding because this is where people will be spending the most time with you and enjoying all the festivities of your special day. So make sure that it is somewhere that speaks volumes about you and your fiance. A place that people walk into and say "Yes, this is exactly where I imagined ______ and ________ to get married."

Just remember "It is YOUR wedding and make sure that YOU enjoy it in a place that YOU have decided on.

Happy Planning

Shafonne Myers
Making Your Event Special, LLC
www.makingyoureventspecial.com

But as any newlywed knows, the focus on finances isn't lifted once the walk down the aisle is complete and the honeymoon is over.

In fact, newlyweds face a number of financial to-do's once they've arrived home. Though some might seem obvious, due to the hectic nature of weddings it's important to review just what you have and haven't done.

· Changed policies? Chances are, both spouses have separate insurance policies, investment accounts, 401(k) plans, etc. Once married, it's prudent for couples to change the beneficiaries on such accounts should something happen to either person. Regardless of what each individual's assets are, it's important to make these changes as soon as possible after the wedding, when doing so is still fresh on your mind.

· Examined your coverages? Couples should compare each other's insurance policies. Oftentimes, couples save money when combining policies such as automobile insurance. Check for duplicate coverage as well, so you can avoid essentially paying for the same thing twice. If you both have renter's insurance, one person can now drop it, since it's likely you'll be living together.
It's also important to reconsider health insurance plans offered by both your places of employment. Most companies offer a choice of coverages, some which are better for singles and others that benefit married couples. Also, sometimes it makes more sense for each spouse to keep their own coverage. Either way, examine both the existing policies and other options and determine what's best.

· Updated your will? Most singles don't even have a will, but it's important for married couples to have one in case of an accident. Many couples prefer their spouse have the power of attorney should they get in an accident, but unless there's a will stating that preference, that position can be challenged by family members. A will ensures your assets will go where you want them to go in case of an accident, and will make sure the person you want to handle such matters is the one who will end up handling them.

· Discussed debt? While most couples have discussed longterm financial goals before walking down the aisle, even the closest of couples might be too embarrassed or ashamed to discuss their personal debt with their spouse. However, each person's financial background will impact the couple's financial future, so if you haven't discussed each other's debt already, do it soon and develop a plan for eliminating debt.

This is also a good time to bring up a budget. Due to the escalating cost of real estate, many newly married couples cannot afford to purchase a home right after they've gotten married. Since home ownership is a goal of most married couples, when discussing debt it's best to establish a mutual budget as well. Lots of couples feature one spender and one saver, but the way for both to be happy and ultimately realize financial goals is to agree upon and adjust to an established budget.

Courtesty of Metro Creative Connection

Surprisingly, however, more and more people are going back to using travel agents for at least some of their travel needs. According to a New York Times article, Forrester Research, a technology consulting firm, reports 9 percent fewer people booked travel online in 2007 than in 2005.

This is probably not news to brides and grooms embarking on their honeymoon planning, and who may find themselves turning to an experienced travel agent for the very first time in their lives. Most honeymoon couples are young enough to have incorporated the Internet into most aspects of their personal and professional lives, so why shouldn't they just book a honeymoon online themselves?

"Honeymoon couples have many reasons for using a travel agent to help plan and book their honeymoon, not the least of which is the time they can save and focus on other wedding details, instead. An experienced travel agent can help them plan the itinerary, book airfare, hotels and activities, saving them time and, frequently, money," according to Scott Ellingboe, CEO of The Honeymoon (www.thehoneymoon.com), an online honeymoon resource that has a honeymoon gift registry service, destination information, honeymoon packages, and a nationwide network of experienced travel agents.

While it's true that travel agents can save a couple the time they might otherwise spend on research and planning themselves, can they really save them money?

"If a honeymoon were simply a matter of booking an airline ticket from point A to point B, then using a travel agent is going to cost more," says Ellingboe. "But travel agents have relationships with tour and package providers that they can leverage in ways the average consumer cannot. Also, honeymoons can involve complex itineraries to various places throughout the world." This is why The Honeymoon has put together a network of honeymoon and destination specialists throughout the country. "These agents don't pay us to be there, we chose them because we wanted our honeymoon registry customers to have the most experienced and knowledgeable travel agents in the industry," offers Ellingboe. In fact, honeymoon and luxury travelers have never really stopped using travel agents for this very reason. Ten years ago the travel agent was going to be 'disintermediated,' a fancy word for 'put out of business.' But today agents are still a viable part of the travel industry.

What it really boils down to is this: there is so much information and so many travel options from which to choose that using a travel professional with the "been there, done that" experience can make the difference between a good trip and a "trip of a lifetime." Long live the travel agent!

Courtesy of Metro Creative Connection

You, however, are getting married in the Internet age, which means you’ll be able to preserve a virtually limitless number of images from the biggest day of your life.

Here are four ways to digitally preserve your wedding photos:

1. Digital Devices From digital picture frames to smart phones that allow you to store images on a micro SD memory card, digital devices mean you can keep - and carry with you – favorite wedding photos. Some digital frames limit the number of images you can store, while others are compatible with SD memory cards, meaning you can store, view and swap out thousands of images. You can also use your MP3 player, laptop, PDA and some mobile phones to store images.

2. Your PC or Laptop Many wedding photographers now offer services to put your wedding photos on a disc so that you can transfer images to your PC or laptop. Most developing services, like those found in pharmacies or department stores, also offer the option to put your images on a disc. This storage method makes it easy to transfer images to your PC or laptop, where you can use editing software to create collages, crop, color-adjust and otherwise manipulate your images.

3. Photo-sharing Web Sites Many photo-sharing Web sites now offer ample storage for all your wedding photo needs. PhotosYourWay.com, for example, a new innovator in photo-sharing, offers 7GB of free storage, enough to store thousands of images. Photo-sharing Web sites also allow you to spice up your photo presentation with effects like captioning, cropping, editing, borders and more. You can present your images in a slide-show format, and even share images with a specific group of family or friends, or designate them viewable by anyone interested in wedding images. One caveat – photo-sharing sites are only for original, amateur works, not the copyrighted images you receive from your professional wedding photographer.

Photos Your Way also offers the opportunity to get paid for your original, amateur wedding images. When you upload your images, simply select the option that makes them available for purchase by photo houses, advertising agencies, publishers and anyone else who needs fresh wedding images on a regular basis.

The Web site acts as a broker for the images, sharing a percentage of the sale price with the member who posted the photo. It’s possible to make up to $300 for exclusive rights to one of your images.

4. Your Own Wedding Web Site Many couples are now opting to design their own Web sites prior to the wedding. Pre-wedding day, the sites can be great resources to communicate important information to guests and for making faraway loved ones feel like a part of your wedding preparations. After your big day, the site can be used to share anecdotes and images from the honeymoon, update friends and family on where you’ll be living as newlyweds, and even for posting personal thank-you messages for especially thoughtful gifts.

Courtesy of ARAcontent

However, depending on the region of country, the bride and groom can expect to spend far more or even a lot less than that. Some interesting tidbits gathered in a survey of bridal consultants across the country conducted by The Knot:

· Those living in regions where the cost of living is highest can expect to spend more than the average. These regions include the Northeast, where a high-end reception site, such as an estate or museum, will fetch a minimum of $3,000, according to Meg Holland of Newton, Massachusetts-based Events Unlimited, Inc. In comparison, Ann Marie Kjelland, of Weddings by Ann Marie, in Plymouth, Minnesota notes that a similar site in that region will likely charge in the neighborhood of $1,000.

· Throughout much of the country, the cost to feed the guests is roughly the same. A more upscale meal in the Northeast can expect to fetch $120-200 per plate. A similar meal in the Midwest is not all that less expensive, typically between $120-140 per plate, while the price is similar in the South as well. Some regions, however, are especially cost-effective. Judy Lehmbeck, of Judy Lehmbeck Bridal and Parties in Oklahoma City, reports a high-end meal in that region is likely to cost between $50-100 per plate, far less than one might expect.

· One area that seemed to have the most uniformity was the cost of floral arrangements. Regardless of where the wedding is taking place, a middle-of-the-road floral arrangement will cost in the neighborhood of $2,000 pretty much anywhere. Such an arrangement typically includes in-season flowers and elaborate bouquets. While most consultants put such arrangements between $1,500 and $2,000, the Midwest, perhaps surprisingly, reported the cost to be far more than that, as Kjelland reported a couple can expect such a floral tab to be $3,000.

Courtesy of Metro Creative Connection

Regardless, trends indicate that everything from flat panel televisions, to home-theater systems to digital and video cameras are popular registry items.

In lieu of this registry evolution, here are some tips for women ready to hit the stores and create wedding registries.

· Register for what you need or want. Many of today's couples have lived independently in their own homes before tying the knot. So it's likely that they have many home essentials already. There's no point in registering for a set of silverware if you already have one. Think about the items that can add to your inventory or specialty effects that you now desire, such as fine china or a video camera to capture your newlywed memories.

· Think multiple registries. You needn't limit yourself to one store. Choose three favorite retailers and register items at each. This gives guests plenty of items to choose from on your wish lists and provides greater flexibility to those who don't live by a specific store or don't have online access for Web shopping. Just be sure not to overlap items between stores, because then you could end up with doubles of things. It's better to choose three distinct retailers, such as a big-box store for linens, a housewares store for small kitchen appliances and cooking essentials, and an electronics center for those techy gifts you'd love to have.

· Register as a couple. It certainly may seem more time-efficient if you go out on your own to register, but involving your spouse in gift selection gives him more of a say in the household choices and future marriage. As registry protocol changes even further, your guy can even choose items that are specifically "guy-zone" items, such as tools and power equipment for the garage. This encourages a balance and both of you can walk away happy.

· Don't get blinded by greed. It's easy to go overboard when you have the store's registry scanner gun in your hand. But firing it at every item on the shelves is certainly not the way to go. Remember, make a list of the items that you really need or want. Have a range of items that are priced at a spectrum so there's something for every guests' budget. Consider avoiding the cheapest or smaller items - a ladle here, a meat thermometer there - because those are things you can certainly pick up on your own.

Courtesy of Metro Creative Connection

Fabrics, silhouettes and accessories borrowed from the 1940s through 1960s offer brides the opportunity to start with the basics and enhance them with luxurious finishing touches.

The Dress
Eschewing large, modern swags of fabrics, designers are embracing the hourglass figure. Waists are nipped in or defined with belts and sashes, often in a color that slightly contrasts with the dress. Charming gowns with the look of prom dresses from the 1950s glide down the aisle with fitted bodices and full skirts of tulle, lace and applique.

For a less formal wedding, brides can go bombshell in frocks reminiscent of 1960s cocktail dresses. The length is shorter, but the look is equally sophisticated with gathered waists and narrower skirts.

The Accessories
Birdcage veils -- with large netting that falls at cheekbone length -- are back in a big way. These simple veils frame the bride’s glowing face and highlight special jewelry. Ladylike wrist-length gloves are the perfect complement to vintage bridal looks.

The classic bridal look is a perfect match with a simple and elegant pair of pearl stud earrings and a lustrous 16-inch strand of cultured pearls around the bride’s neck.

“The Hindu Lord Krishna is said to have offered pearls to his daughter as a wedding gift which is where pearls and weddings were first married,” says Jeremy Shepherd of PearlParadise.com, the world’s largest online pearl company. “Pearls are considered a symbol of purity, making them the perfect fit with a bride’s white dress.”

Shepherd recommends white akoya pearls, a saltwater pearl that grows primarily in the coastal areas of Japan and China. Considered to be the classic pearls for jewelry, akoya pearls are prized for their perfect round shape, mirror-like luster and soft, neutral colors.

Visit http://www.pearlparadise.com/ for more ideas and classic bridal pearls.

The Look
Tie a classic dress and accessories together with a polished hairstyle such as a bun or chignon and keep make-up understated. Dark brown or black eyeliner extended slightly past the end of the eyelid, a touch of black mascara and a shade of red lipstick perfectly matched to the bride’s complexion are all that’s necessary to complete the perfect, classic Hollywood face.

Courtesy of ARAcontent

One, like no other, one that no one can top but when they get right down to it, they always end up with wedding etiquette questions. How do we do our first kiss? What is the order of the processional and receiving line? These are just a few of the more popular questions that tend to come up in conversation.

The first kiss is meant to be the first time that you and your fiancé show the world and your wedding, that you are officially husband and wife. It is a cherished moment that you all don’t want tainted with a gratuitous open-mouthed, tongue quenched, make-out session. You definitely what to keep it nice, sensual and sophisticated.

The order of the processional depends, a lot of times, on the religious background of the couple. Most religions tend to go in this order: Grandparents of the groom, Grandparents of the bride, Mother of the bride, Officiant, groom, best man and groomsmen (if they are not walking down the aisle with the bridesmaids. Bridesmaids: starting with the one that is farthest from you in the line up, Maid of Honor/ Matron of Honor, Ring bearer and flower girl (they can come down separate or together). Last but not least, the bride and her father (or whom ever else is given this wonderful task).

Receiving lines have always been a much-debated addition to ceremonies, which can prove to be very useful. Whenever people come to your wedding you want to make sure that they feel important. Receiving lines give guests the pleasure of physically congratulating you and your family without feeling like they are intruding while you are trying to enjoy yourself at the reception.

The order of receiving lines is as follows:Mother of the Bride, Father of the Bride (optional) Bride, Groom, Mother of the Groom, Father of the Groom (optional), Bridesmaids and Groomsman (both are optional). There are numerous variations as to the order, including no men, along with no bridesmaids.

Happy Planning,

Shafonne Myers

Making Your Event Special, LLC
http://www.makingyoureventspecial.com/

But are you forgetting about one of the most important parts of looking beautiful on your wedding day: your face?

Every bride wants to shine on her wedding day, but she probably doesn't want her skin to shine, too. Problems like oily, dry, or irritated skin plague a good portion of the population. But on your wedding day you don't want skin inconveniences to ruin your festivities.

"One of the best ways to put your best face forward is to know your skin type, what causes you to breakout, and to avoid any products or foods that may contribute to the problem - at least until the last wedding photo has been snapped," says Brooke Tilson, a Toronto makeup artist. If you don't know the answers to these questions, you may want to visit a dermatologist a few months before the wedding to talk about your concerns and to get recommendations for proper skin care.

In addition to professional skin advice, here are some other ways to maximize your beauty potential come your wedding day.

Cleansing and Toning

Healthy skin starts with clean skin. Be sure to remove makeup every night and wash your face with a mild cleanser appropriate for your skin type twice daily. Toners can refresh the skin, dry up any extra oil on the surface and clean out pores. Now is not the time to experiment with the latest and greatest products out there. You don't want to risk irritation to your skin before your wedding day.

Be Gentle

When cleansing, drying, or even applying makeup, treat your skin with a soft hand. Blot gently with cotton balls or swabs, and avoid tugging or rubbing the skin. Not only can this cause redness or irritation, it may also contribute to long-term wrinkling.

Not So 'Sun'sational

Many brides-to-be believe that suntanning will cure many of their skin ailments. This isn't the case. While sunbathing may temporarily alleviate acne or breakouts, it could actually compound the problem and make outbreaks worse over time. Other ladies think that tanned skin will make them look better against their white bridal gown. However, on your wedding day you should look like the best version of you, not a complete stranger. Fair-skinned individuals may look out of place with a deep tan. Err on the side of moderate whenever contemplating modifying your skin tone, as it will affect makeup choices and other things as well. And avoid tanning booths or sitting out in the sun. If you must be tan, look for artificial spray tans or bronzers that create natural-looking color.

Makeup

Conservative, natural-looking makeup should also be the rule. The photographs you take on your wedding day will be a testament to the era and moments you shared. But you don't want to look dated when you reminisce years later. Choose muted shades on eyes, lips and cheeks that enhance, rather than cover up your beauty. Select makeup that is smudge- and waterproof so it will stand up to tears of joy and kisses from well-wishers. Pressed or loose powder can also be your best friend. It will come in handy when you have to touch up spots on your face or combat shine.

Don't hide behind a veil your entire wedding day. Learn the way to healthy, vibrant skin.

Courtesy of Metro Creative Connetion

Veils date back to ancient Greeks and Romans, who used them to fend off evil spirits and demons. The thinking was that the evil spirits would not be able to get to the person behind the veil, hence keeping her safe for her husband. In the late eighteenth century in America, veils became quite popular. Aides to George Washington saw his step granddaughter Nellie sitting by a lace-curtained window and remarked on her stunning beauty. Nellie recreated the scene at her wedding by making a veil of white lace.

Today's brides still take part in the tradition of the veil, but add their own spin on the accessory. Veils typically correspond to the color of the gown. White represents the ultimate purity of the bride. A veil can be whatever you want it to be, from simple and understated to extravagant and detailed. It can also be any length, from cascading beyond the wedding train to ending at the bride's elbow.

No matter what you choose in a veil, it's important that it complements your overall look and doesn't compete with your gown. A fancy veil will be too much for a detailed gown, but you can embellish a plain dress with a detailed veil.

When selecting veils, it helps if you have an image of your gown in mind. Some dress shops also specialize in veils, so you may be able to try on your gown and different veils to compare looks. It is also wise to style your hair and makeup similar to how you will wear it on your wedding day. This way you can experience the full effect.

When observing yourself in the veil, try it on in front of a full-length mirror, and view yourself from all angles. A veil may look flattering from the front, but may not complement the back of your gown.

Don't forget to walk around the house or dress shop in your veil, especially if you are choosing one of considerable length. This way you can grow accustomed to maneuvering with the veil on and avoid tripping on your big day.

While veils are very beautiful, they are entirely optional for the bride (unless your house of worship has rules regarding veils). Many other headpieces and accessories are available if you opt out of a veil. These include tiaras, barrettes, hats, and more.

Courtesy of Metro Creative Connection
